Vargtimmen (The Hour of the Wolf)
Ingmar Bergman, 1968.
Reclusive painter Jonas (Max vin Sydow) retreats to a desolate island with his young wife Alma (Liv Ullman), but is terrified to sleep due to nightmarish visions. As time passes Alma too begins to experience the malicious, vampyric ghosts that haunt her husband. Their undead tormentors are decadent, aristocratic denizens of the island’s castle, who have a terrible plan in mind for Jonas. Bergman's sole horror film is shot in stark high contrast with some peculiarly disturbing images, especially during Jonas’ final torturous humiliation.
